When you think about Mexico, the first cities that come to mind are Cancun, Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta, and Cozumel. How about Puerto Escondido? Puerto Escondido is located in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, and offers a variety of activities for families and solo travelers. I had an opportunity to experience Puerto Escondido, and what a difference from the Mexico I have been to. Puerto Escondido is a paradise for surfers and beach lovers. I’m not a surfer, but a beach lover who enjoys watching surfers do their thing. Puerto Escondido is a great family-friendly travel destination, perfect for spring break, family reunions, etc. The town offers an ideal combination of outdoor activities, cultural experiences, and relaxation on the beach. I stayed at the beautiful Vivo Resorts and Residences.
Vivo Resorts has the privacy of living independently in a condo. However, you have all the resort amenities like a restaurant and bar, nightly entertainment, spa, gym, pools, the beach, and many other activities for the entire family. The rooms at Vivo Resorts are from one-bedroom to four-bedroom condos and penthouses with one to four bedrooms, so there is ample space for large and small family gatherings.
Puerto Escondido is known for its laid-back atmosphere and is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico. I visited Zicatella, and I was ready to move right in. The beautiful sunset, the bars along the beachside, and some of the best mojitos and fish tacos I have ever had. Seeing all the families with young kids learning to surf, chilling, and enjoying the most beautiful sunset was so refreshing.
I visited the market located in the center of Puerto Escondido. The market offers a variety of food, crafts, and souvenirs. In addition, it is a great place to experience the local culture and try traditional Mexican dishes.
For example, I tried roasted grasshoppers called Chapullines, a pre-Hispanic delicacy used in drinks and some conventional Oaxacan dishes. Talking about food, the food is “Delicious.” I can’t explain how fresh everything taste.
You can taste the freshness in every meal. I was blown away by the presentation of the dishes at Vivo Resorts, and my favorite was the fish tacos.
Playa Principal is the most popular beach in the heart of the town and is perfect for swimming and sunbathing. It is very popular with visitors and locals, with many local restaurants, shops, and a surf school. The place has distinctive vibes that make you feel happy and recharged. I met a solo traveler from Sweden on the beach, and while chatting, she told me that this was her first solo trip; however, she had met so many people and now had more plans; she did not feel like a solo traveler and loved the experience.
Another great experience for families and everyone is the turtle release by the Turtle Conversation Center, and you can experience it at Vivo Resorts. The conservation center is dedicated to protecting and conserving sea turtles and offers guided turtle releases at Vivo Resorts, and it is an excellent experience for kids and adults.
I also had a chance to experience the stunning views of the bioluminescent and saw how the natural phenomenon occurs. The views were incredible. Just seeing the glow-in-the-dark plankton is an experience I will never forget. This tour is just 10 minutes from Vivo Resorts and the perfect ending to my trip. If it is not on your bucket list, a trip to Vivo Resorts and Residences in Puerto Escondido should be added.
I was able to enjoy so much of Puerto Escondido thanks to my guide Jesus Silba. He was resourceful, knowledgeable, and very entertaining.
